Pictures from the Michaelmas Term 2006


Pupils had rather a surprise on the last morning of term...

"Oh no, they didn't!"

Oh yes, they did!"

...the staff put on a superbly rehearsed and marvellously acted pantomime ;) - Cinderella!

Unfortunately missing from the picture is Mr Stafford - the Fairy Godmother!


This term's Year 7 & 8 Production was an outstanding performance of Oliver!

Directed by Mr Stafford, the audience on the last night gave it no less than it deserved

- a standing ovation!

Christmas Shoeboxes!

MPS pupils have brought in 232 boxes for underprivileged children.

That's more shoeboxes than there are pupils!

This year we ran an inter-form competition to see which class could bring in

 the most boxes.  The picture shows some members of 6M, the winning

form, who brought in an amazing 26 shoeboxes between the 19 of them!


Congratulations to the 1st VII Girls' Hockey Team -

the new County Champions!

The girls won the title without conceding a single goal, beating Clifton 3-0 in the final.

They will now move on to represent Avon in the South-West Regional Championships.


Science Week was a great success, with an amazing number

 of fun, scientific activities organised for both pupils and parents!

The culmination of Book Week was the ever popular Book Character Day!

The picture shows just some of the children in their wonderful costumes.


One of the highlights of Book Week was the visit of author Adele Geras.

She is pictured here with the winners of the Book Week Cake Competition.


The 1sts Girls' Hockey Team were joint winners of the Tournament at All Hallows.

 


Let's go surfing dude! Year 6 did just that, and lots more, during their visit to Skern Lodge.

Sailing, Raft Building, Archery and Assault Course were just some of the activities.

Kearns were the winners of this year's Inter-House Cross Country

And they're off! The Year 3 and 4s race gets under way.

Mr Chatten (right of picture) deserves a special mention

 for running all three Cross Country races!


Congratulations to the Under 11 Girls, who got the term off to a

great start by winning the King's Bruton Hockey Tournament!


The pupils arrived at the start of term to find that the

 Science Lab had been completely refurbished!

Howard were the runaway winners of this year's Sports Day!

The picture shows the Victor & Victrix Ludorums

-the individual winners of each age group.


Mr Sibley presided over a very successful Midsummer Concert

- one of the highlights of the end of term!


Wearing berets, eating snails... Year 7 certainly experienced

the French way of life during their week-long trip to Normandy!

The photo shows some of the pupils buying their own lunch at a French Supermarket.


Slaves, togas and more! Year 6 got fully immersed in the

Roman way of life during their trip to the Fort at Caerleon.


Year 8 celebrated the end of their exams with a weekend away at the Redridge Centre, Wales.


A World War II Pilot flew into Year 3 to help them with this term's project!


Howard were the winners of this year's House Music Competition.

The photo shows the Howard ensemble, as well as the

 winner of the trophy for the best individual performance.


Nearly there!  Well over a hundred pupils, parents and staff (and dogs!)

joined in the Wells Walk to raise money for Save the Children.


Year 4 learnt lots about the Tudors during their visit to Red Lodge!

The audiences were full of praise for the Year 5 and 6 Production of

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe!

A huge team of pupils, parents and staff combined to produce a brand-new version of C.S.Lewis' magical story.  Click here for more pictures.


Julia Wynn from 6M could soon be appearing in the Guinness Book of Records after getting the best result in a Times Tables World Record Attempt! 

Julia completed 100 times tables questions in 1 minute 42 seconds.  If the record is confirmed by Guinness then she could be finding her names in the next edition of the bestselling book.


The Year 6 Girls Netball Team made history on 22nd February by becoming the first Monkton team ever to win the MCJS Rowland Jones Netball Tournament!

In 2005, MCJS raised a total of £6,390 for Save the Children!

The cheque being presented to Jane Skillicorn of Save the Children by the Head Boy and Girl.


Year 3 enjoyed their visit to Techniquest on 24th January!


Year 7 have been making hats in their Art lessons.  All the children paraded through assembly

 wearing their hat on 17th January.  Various staff then had the difficult task of judging the best.
