There are unfortunately a lot of endangered mammals, here are just a few of them and how other people are helping them.

Grizzly Bear

The grizzly bear lives in river valleys, mountain forest or open meadows. Quite a few of them live in North America and there, there are fewer than 150,000 left. They are threatened and some of their habitats have been destroyed because of human settlement or timber harvesting. Also they have a low reproductive rate so this makes them even more threatened. Unfortunately they are also used for poaching i.e. for gallbladders.

The conservation efforts include government programs to manage the population. As well as public education of bears and bears needs.

Snow Leopard

The snow leopard has become extremely rare, because of its skin and the demand for it. An estimated 3,000 to 7,000 are left in the wild and about 370 in captivity. The trade in snow leopard skins is illegal, but it still happens, threatening the snow leopards existence.

The protection that is happening is *CITIES Appendix I, U.S. Endangered Species Act

Ring-Tailed Lemur

They live in forest dwellers or they are sometimes found in thinly wooded country. They are normally found in groups of 12-24. They are endangered because of people destroying their habitat, for timber or industry. their numbers have gone down to 160 in December 1990.

Black Rhino

The Black Rhino lives in brush and scattered open woodlands, with mud wallows. They live in limited areas of south and eastern Africa. They are endangered because of poaching for their horns. People use the horns for dagger handles and medicinal purposes. They are also endangered because of habitat destruction.

Conservation efforts include capture and relocation of animals, protected preserves, law enforcement and strict penalties for poaching.
